Lot 8. LAR21-400. A very special quality bull on offer. He is one of the best “packages” ever to be put up for auction at Up George. Not only is Lot 8 phenotypically one of the finest bulls ever bred at Up George, but also has one the most influential combinations of dam lines in the herd, namely LAR13-049 & LAR10-159. The dam lines & “bull mothers” are of paramount importance in our herd sire selections as the dam plays a significant role in the value of replacement heifers which is the foundation of any herd striving for adaptability, longevity, uniformity & economic performance. Lot 8’s dam, LAR13-049 (105/8 calves, BP10-17 daughter) is a truly magnificent cow & as perfect as one can get! A real 9 score beauty queen, dark red cow with an exceptional A frame, capacity & beautiful feminine head. She has 100% retention for all 9 calves, 6 daughters in the herd & all 3 sons used in the herd, have become top influential herd sires namely, LAR16-093 (Sebadja Bonsmaras), LAR20-403 (Bonga Bonsmaras) & Lot 8 LAR21-400. The other influential dam is LAR10-159 (Lot 8’s paternal grandmother) who needs no introduction being the dam of herd sires LAR14-173, LAR17-358 & LAR19-319. This Elite Gold, 5 star cow LAR10-159 is the grand mother of Lot 8’s sire LAR17-292. There is incredible retention, longevity & fertility in Lot 8’s pedigree (EBV index 127 & 101) Retention & longevity are 2 of the most important functional features from an economic & production perspective which is often overlooked. LAR17-292’s dam, LAR12-140 (still in the herd) has had 6 maternal sisters in the herd & Grand dam LAR04-209 has had 15 calves. Lot 8, a well balanced bull with exceptional length & topline. LAR 22-506

LAR 22-506 Logix Pedigree Report

Lot 10. LAR22-506. This is a unique situation for Up George to offer more than 1 exceptional proven herd sires on auction. Lot 10 is a very impressive son of the ever popular herd sire LAR17-358 with numerous share holders. He is a “block of beef” with very similar positive attributes as his sire, with an extremely attractive masculine broad head. This width follows on throughout his conformation, being extremely broad over the back & hind quarters. An attractive wide awake, heavy bull, short on the leg & genetically an early maturing type with a light birth mass (33kg) & excellent growth .(114 EBV) One of the last calves to be born in 2022, he did exceptionally well to compete in his D phase group with above average weight gains. (ADG index 116) This is a highly valuable attribute of adaptability, with the ability to thrive, reproduce & maintain body condition under environmental stress. This being essential for herd profitability without relying on supplementary feed. As breeders we like to concentrate on producing quality beef primarily off the veld. Lot 10’s dam, LAR18-442, is a perfect type of cow, very broad, strong topline, neat & feminine with milk (101/4 calves) A young cow where we used both her first 2 calves in the herd, Lot 10 & the prepotent herd sire LAR21-097 (Kobus du Toit) LAR18-442, a very attractive daughter of herd sire LAR14-106 (Jean Gouws & Andre vd Heyde. We used Lot 10 in Summer & Autumn on cows with very successful results. Broad thickset calves, with dark pigment, both males & females. One of his top heifer calves on sale this year with her dam, LAR20-329 (LAR17-292 daughter) as Lot 85. One can clearly see the traits of Lot 10’s grandmother, the stalwart cow LAR10-159 (dam of herd sires LAR14-173, LAR17-358, LAR19-319) coming through in the progeny of Lot 10.
